x402 hits 100M transactions. Visa + Artemis publish. Stripe launches MPP. The agent economy is no longer coming — it's here.

Visa/Artemis Report
TL;DR: In the last 12 months, machine-to-machine agent payments went from experimental protocol to production infrastructure. x402 alone processed 100M+ transactions. Visa, Stripe, Coinbase, AWS, Google, Microsoft, and Circle are all in. The window to build the agent payment marketplace is right now.
The Big Picture
July 2026 marks an inflection point for M2M payments. Three events in rapid succession:
July 2026: Visa and Artemis publish "Agentic Payments from the Ground Up" — the first comprehensive industry report on the agent payment economy. It frames two categories: macro transactions (AI agents booking hotels) and micropayments (sub-$1 API calls, M2M).
July 2026: x402 protocol reports 100M+ cumulative transactions and ~$15M adjusted volume, with 422K buyers and 5.3K sellers.
June 2026: 0x Swap API adopts x402 — agents pay $0.01/request in USDC for swap data.
The x402 Protocol
x402 is the standard for agent-native payments. Built on HTTP 402 (Payment Required), it embeds USDC payment into the web request cycle:
Agent calls an API endpoint
Server responds HTTP 402 with a payment challenge
Agent signs the challenge with its wallet (EIP-3009, gasless)
Payment settles in ~200ms on Base L2
Agent retries the request → gets the result
Timeline:
May 2025: Coinbase launches x402 on Base
Sep 2025: x402 Foundation co-launched with Cloudflare
Feb 2026: Stripe integrates x402 for USDC on Base
Apr 2026: Moves to Linux Foundation governance — backed by Circle, Google, Microsoft, Stripe, Visa
May 2026: Coinbase + AWS partnership — x402 in Amazon Bedrock AgentCore
Jun 2026: 0x Swap API adopts x402
"The combination of AI breakthroughs (Claude 4.5, GPT Codex 5.2) and falling blockchain settlement costs has made 1-cent to $1 micropayments economically viable for the first time." — Visa/Artemis Report, July 2026

Where minia2a Fits
The landscape has big players building the protocols (x402, MPP) and the wallets (Coinbase, Stripe). But there's a gap: no one is building the marketplace layer.
minia2a.uk fills this gap:
Discovery: 154 paywalled endpoints, organized and searchable
Onboarding: 20,000 free trial credits — agents can try before buying
Integration: MCP (Claude Code, Cursor), REST API, curl, and now Pilot Protocol
Provider side: List your API, set your price, earn USDC. 5% fee.
Neutral: Independent marketplace — not tied to any single wallet or chain
The opportunity: x402 has 422K buyers but only 5.3K sellers. That's a 80:1 buyer-to-seller ratio. The bottleneck is service discovery and provider onboarding — exactly what a marketplace solves.
Challenges (and Why They're Solvable)
The Visa/Artemis report flags real concerns:
Trust & accountability: Who's liable when an agent makes a bad purchase? Solution: trial credits + per-call pricing (not subscriptions) + transparent ratings.
Concentration risk: If a few large AI deployments drive most volume, the ecosystem is fragile. Solution: open marketplace with low barrier to entry for providers.
Adversarial attacks: Agents tricking other agents. Solution: spend caps, API key auth, rate limiting.
What's Next
Pilot Protocol integration: minia2a is now on Pilot as node 251709 (hostname minia2a-iris). Agents on the 240K-node overlay can discover and query minia2a directly.
More endpoints: Growing from 154 to 500+ services in H2 2026.
