The Agent Payment Stack Is Crowding — Here's Who's Who in August 2026

August 3, 2026

Six months ago, saying "AI agents pay each other in USDC" got confused looks. Today, there are at least 8 funded teams shipping agent payment infrastructure — and the competition is accelerating fast.

This post maps every major player in the agent-to-agent payment space as of August 2026, with real data on what each one does, how they're funded, and where they fit. Including us.

The Heavyweights

Coinbase: The Standard-Setter

Coinbase didn't just adopt x402 — they co-founded the x402 Foundation alongside Cloudflare, with Visa, Mastercard, Google, Stripe, and Ripple as members. In July 2026, they launched native agent payment acceptance for Coinbase Business users: merchants can now accept USDC from AI agents in "3 lines of code."

Coinbase is building the enterprise on-ramp. They're not competing on marketplace discovery or free trials — they're making sure every Coinbase Business merchant can accept agent payments. That's complementary to what we do, not competitive.

AEON: The Best-Funded Startup

AEON raised $8M pre-seed led by YZi Labs (Binance's venture arm). They shipped an x402 Facilitator and SDK on BNB Chain and are targeting 50M+ merchants. Their pitch: bring x402 payments to the BNB Chain ecosystem.

AEON is the closest direct competitor to minia2a in terms of being a payment facilitator. But their focus is on the BNB Chain merchant side, not on being a discovery marketplace for agent services.

XDC AI: The Enterprise Push

XDC Network launched XDC AI, pairing x402 with gasless USDC settlement. They held a New York demo event with 100+ bank, VC, and tech representatives. Their positioning: enterprise-grade, compliance-ready agent payments.

XDC AI is going after regulated financial institutions. Different customer segment from the independent developers and agent builders on minia2a.

The Open-Source / Developer-First Players

agenticpay

An open-source, MCP-native pay-per-tool-call implementation on Solana. Self-hosted x402 facilitator. Prices as low as $0.0005–$0.001 USDC per call. Built for developers who want to run their own payment infrastructure.

MoltsPay

An SDK that turns any skill into a paid service via x402 + USDC. Multi-chain (Base, Polygon, Solana, BNB) with gasless transactions. Similar developer-first approach.

x402-agent-tools

The largest collection of x402-compatible tools: 103 production-ready tools at an average of $0.003 per call. Covers crypto data, company enrichment, trust scores, and prediction markets. 3–17× cheaper than traditional API competitors.

Where minia2a Fits

We're not the best-funded (AEON raised $8M, we raised $0). We're not the most enterprise (Coinbase, XDC AI have that). We're not the cheapest per-call (agenticpay beats us at $0.0005).

Here's what we are:

The marketplace with the most services and the only free trial layer

175 services — more than any other x402 marketplace. 327,440 requests processed. 4,599 free trials given to 316 developers. 7 chains supported (Base, Arbitrum, Optimism, Polygon, Solana, BNB Chain, X Layer).

Every service on minia2a offers free trials. Agents can test an API before committing a single cent of USDC. No other marketplace does this at our scale.

Our thesis: discovery is the bottleneck, not payments. Martin Havel ran 9 x402-capable MCP servers and got zero agent payments — not because the payment rails didn't work, but because no agent knew his services existed. minia2a solves discovery.

The Convergence Pattern

Every player in this space is converging on the same stack:

  1. x402 (HTTP 402 protocol) for payment signaling
  2. USDC for settlement
  3. Gasless / nanopayments for sub-cent transactions
  4. Some form of discovery (marketplace, directory, or SDK registry)

The differences are in layer 4: how agents find services and how services find paying customers. That's where marketplaces compete — and it's still wide open.

What's Missing: The Data

Here's what nobody talks about: the conversion problem. On minia2a, 316 developers tried services, 34 created wallets, and 14 have made paid transactions. That's a 0.36% trial-to-paid rate. We published the full honest data.

I suspect every other platform has similar numbers — they just aren't sharing them. The agent payment market is real but early. Most agents are still using free trials. Paid adoption will come, but it won't be overnight.

Our Advantage

minia2a's competitive moat is simple:

We're the try-before-you-buy layer of the agent economy. As the space matures, that position becomes more valuable, not less.

The Bottom Line

August 2026 is the moment the agent payment infrastructure moved from "experimental" to "production." Coinbase, AEON, XDC, Solana, and Circle are all shipping. The x402 protocol is winning as the standard (HTTP 402 revived). USDC is the settlement currency.

The next battle is discovery and conversion — helping agents find services and helping services get paid. That's our game.
