| 10 | SpendOS | OWS Hackathon | Autonomous agent selling compute via x402, self-funding inference costs | Proof-of-concept: an agent that earns, spends, and invests autonomously. The circular agent economy in miniature |
The agent payment space isn't just attracting startups β it's triggering major acquisitions:
Key venture rounds in the last 60 days:
| Company | Round | Amount | Lead Investors |
|---|---|---|---|
| Mesh | Series B | $75M | $1B valuation |
| Crossmint | Series A | $23.6M | Multiple rounds cumulative |
| Skyfire | Seed | $9.5M | Anthropic, Cohere, Replicate as customers |
| AIsa | Seed | $6.5M | Alibaba, Tribe Capital, Draper Associates |
| ILITY | Institutional | $1M | Archer Capital, TBV (following Animoca, DuckDAO) |
The agent payment space is splitting into two protocol camps:
| Dimension | x402 (Coinbase / Linux Foundation) | MPP (Stripe / Tempo) |
|---|---|---|
| Philosophy | Permissionless, open-standard, "Unix philosophy for payments" | Full-stack, enterprise-grade, compliance-first |
| Mechanism | Per-request HTTP 402 + EIP-3009 signatures | Session-based streaming, off-chain batch settlement |
| Rails | Multi-chain (Base, Solana, Polygon, Ethereum) | Tempo blockchain (10K+ TPS, sub-second finality) |
| Settlement | On-chain, USDC (99.8% of volume) | Off-chain batch + Stripe SPTs (stablecoins + fiat) |
| Transactions | 167M+ cumulative, ~110K daily | 2,300+ sellers in 5 days (March 2026) |
| Avg Transaction | $0.46 | Not disclosed |
| Key Advantage | Massive scale, open-source, 40 foundation members | Hybrid crypto-fiat, Stripe's merchant network, compliance built-in |
Every major tech company has an agent payment initiative:
| Company | Initiative | Status |
|---|---|---|
| AP2 protocol, 60+ partners, x402 in A2A framework | Live | |
| AWS | Bedrock AgentCore Payments, Coinbase + Stripe wallet infra | Preview (May 2026) |
| Visa | Agentic Ready Europe, AI Agent SDK, Trusted Agent Protocol, 1.5B+ merchant acceptance | Live |
| Mastercard | Agent Pay (all US cardholders), BVNK acquisition ($1.8B), AP4M with 30+ partners | Live |
| Stripe | Agentic Commerce Suite, Bridge acquisition ($1.1B), x402 + MPP support | Live |
| Circle | Agent Stack (wallets + nanopayments + marketplace), USDC settles 99.8% of x402 | Live (May 2026) |
| Coinbase | x402 V2 under Linux Foundation, AgentKit, AWS Bedrock integration | Live |
| MoonPay | MoonAgents Card, non-custodial AI wallets, 30M+ customers | Live (May 2026) |
The agent payment stack now has four layers, and three of them are well-funded:
minia2a operates at Layer 4. With 218 services (the largest public x402 directory), 5,902 trials processed, and zero-friction onboarding (500 free credits, no KYC), it's the most accessible entry point for agent developers who need to test, discover, and integrate paid APIs.
But the competition is coming. OpenGrant has a similar directory model. Synapse adds ENS identity. AIsa has $6.5M and Alibaba's distribution. The discovery layer won't stay fragmented forever β the window to establish the default directory for agent payments is open, but it won't stay open long.
Crossmint and Skyfire are building aggregation layers that abstract away the protocol. If agents pay through Crossmint's unified API without ever knowing whether x402 or MPP is underneath, the discovery function shifts to the aggregator. minia2a needs to be the directory these aggregators pull from β or risk being bypassed entirely.
MPP onboarded 2,300 sellers in 5 days. x402 took months to reach the same number. If the protocol war is won on merchant adoption speed, x402's developer-first, permissionless approach needs distribution channels β and minia2a is the most natural one.
AWS Bedrock AgentCore and Google's A2A framework both have payment integrations. If either launches a service directory with built-in payments, the independent directory play gets squeezed from above. Speed matters.
With 218 services and growing, minia2a is already the largest public x402 directory. Every new service that lists here makes the directory more valuable for agents. Network effects in discovery are real β and minia2a has the first-mover advantage.
5,902 trials, 36 wallets, 14 transactions. The funnel needs work β but the trial volume proves agents are actively searching for services. If minia2a can convert even 5% of trial users to paid (up from 0.24%), that's 15 paying agents. At 10%, it's 30. The pipeline exists; the conversion mechanics need optimization.
minia2a's /api/stats endpoint provides real-time data on what agents actually use. Captcha-solving leads (697 calls, 130 users), followed by gas estimation (451) and the memory stack (find/recall/store: 1,002 combined). No competitor publishes this level of demand data. Content marketing built on real usage data β like the Agent API Engagement Index β creates SEO moats that funded competitors can't easily replicate.
The agent payment landscape in August 2026 is not a single race β it's a four-layer infrastructure stack being built simultaneously, with different players dominating each layer. minia2a's position at the discovery layer is defensible but not impregnable. The 10 new entrants in this report collectively represent over $100M in venture funding and institutional backing. But none of them have solved discovery β and that's the gap minia2a was built to fill.
